Caps Tame Tampa Sweep Season Series

The Caps beat Tampa again somewything they have beeen doein all season. Ovie scored twice and Bakcstrom twice as the Caps win 5-3. Ovie scored first being close to the gaol but far enough for a slapper he beat goalie low shelf corner his 52nd from Bakcstrom and Laich. The Ovie would ste up Bakctsromm on his way to the net to socre a goal hos 20th from Ovechkin and Green. ST Louis would score for Tmapa then Bakctsrom would bakchand in arebvopund low and in his 21st from green and Ovechkin.. Pothier woiuld recover a loose puck and slap it high near side for his 1st from laich and AUcoin. Ovie would add an empty netter his 53rd from Laich who cleared the puck noicley on a dive and ovie recovered and skated in freely. Jose made 33 saves and played well Bakctrom Ovie Pothier the three stars.

Ovie another goal but caps fall in shootout

I didn't blog about Caps loss to Carolina a game they would have loved to win becaause that pretty much would have sealed the division to them but they lost after Green tied it at 1 with his 28th the third belonged to the Canes when twice a d got open in front with time and Jose appeared to be a Muslim praying but hey these things happen. Better effort tonight vs Toronto they trailed twice but tied it twice and sent this one to an OT SO situation where the Caps could not find the net against Joseph who came in after a shoving incicdent between Gerber and the refs and eraned Gerber a game misconduct. A D man Oreskovic shot wide but it hit a d in front and fell in it sorta curved. Then Ovie on the PP would tie when he got apass on the wing and blew by d man deked Gerber and baklchanded it in for his 51st from Baklcstrom Green. Then Kubina beat Jose on a late PP after Semin just missed a marvelous chance to give the Caps the late lead after a rebound dribbled through Gerber it wass sitting right on the goaline and Semin whiffed i hate to say it. But Smein would be a main reason the Caps tied after Kibina beta Jose 5 hole as he would flip a backhander trying to bank it off the goalie and in it fell to the ice right like the previous play was buit this time Laich jammed it in with under a minute left and tied it up AT 2 his 19th from Semin and Ovechkin. Hamuiltoin beat Jose in the SO when he deked all the around him and fired one seven hole. Bakctsrom shot first for the Caps but he don't do shjootouts that mucgh and his attempt was saved not enough deking Smein shot one high and wide and Ovie could not get his up after a nice deke he slid his shot off the goalie's leg. Jose 27 saves pretty steady in the shootout too and that first goal he surrebnderd was a flukey one. Caps get a needed point would have really liked the 2 but theys till lead Canes by 10 with just 7 left. Best way to put it 3 wins guranteed them a division title and three is only neccessary if the Canes win all the remaining seven. Two would likeley be wnough and one win still prolly would be 2 but they need about 4-6 ponits out of a possible 14 and i would be just shocked if they don't get hot vs Tampa again and take the suspnese away from the final 6 games although im sure they'll be gunning hard in all the contests regarless of points trying to gear up for the PLAYOFFS. Caps Crush Tampa keep winning.

The Caps have won 2 in a row adn this one against Tampa was close 2-2 in the third but the Caps would get three in the third and run away with it towards the end. ovie staretd the scoring when he deked a d off his heels and wristed one in the right spot top shelf far side for his 50th the he dropped his stick and pretended he couldn't touch saying hot hot hot very classic assists Backstrom. Stamkos would fire in a rebound to tie it but late in the first Mike Green would be the recipoient of a crisp passing play and fire won far side top shelf his 26th assists Morrison and Kozlov. St Louis would tie it when he fired home a rebound that Varlomov got a piece of but it got by him. Then green would score early in third this time top shelf near side for his 27th assists Ovechkin adn kozlov and 3-2 was the socre and the Caps would hold the lead. Nylander then would get a feed whoile he was skating towards the net and fire one far isde middle for his 8th Kozlov made the gerat feed and Ovechkin got ahelper to. Then Matt Bardley would get a nice hussle goal on a rebound that me mangeed to get enough of to get over the Leg of Mckeena adn in his 5th from Morrison and Steckel. The rookie gaolie Simeon varlamov is now 3-0 in his three starts and has not allowed more than 2 gaols in any of them and made 26 savesand looks like a real promising prospect to be the future in gaol for the Caps. First star Green with 2 gaols seocnd Ovie with a goal and 2 asisst Lashoff thurd with two helpers. next up Toronto on Stauyrday after the Terps Caps now trail Boston by 4 and lead Newq Jersye by 1 if only Boston hadn't gotten that one point alst night it would be a there point lead but it's getting closer and closer to top seed. Terps Pound Bears On theer way to second round

Before this game i had mentioned to some people hay the Terps football team blasted Cal wouldn't it be nice if they could do the same on the court. Well they did and much like there win vs Wake they dominated the second half. Grevis filled up the stat sheet getting 27 points 5 boards 4 assists 2 steals. Randel Cal's PG was the third best from long range in the country and Cal first at 43% but no such lucj vs the Terps as 7-24 29% and Randel 2-6. Randle was excellent in the first half but basically dissapered in the second going 2-3 but getting d'd up and his penetretions taken away. Neale wqas 6-11 for 15 and played well. Bowie helped with his 12 5-9 FG's and Hayes pumped in 14 off the pine 4-9. Dino gergory was clutch getting a tip in and tip dunk which had people whoaing in the crowd and had 4 on 2-3. Milbourne had 9 and him and Hayes hit abck to bakc tres that finally gave the Terps a nice cushion which they would build to i think as much as 15 definitley at leats 13 and they held on to it shooting 6-16 from deep that's 37.5% a pretty good number. Vazquez did airball a tre but hey in the tournament people might get extra nervous and foregt how to shoot. Terps will play second seed Memphis a team Gtown handled rather easily this year and I think if the Terps play well they can handle the Tigers and mve into that Sweet Sixteen and that would definitley be sweet for Coach willams and his players. It's on Saturdayt at 3:20 in Kansas and i will definitley be tuning in to go fro my squad in that one. Mosley had 3 points on a quiet day for the Freshman.

Caps Atone for "Stinker" Shutout Florida

Did not blog on the last gaem a bad loss to ATL 5-1 with Fehr getting a goal late his 11th. Only prolem was that Atlanta had scored 5 times before that and gaev Jose the early exit to the showers. Not a good game for the Caps but they come right back and blank FLorida. No goals in the first but shorthanded in the second Laich would recover a clear lose it for a second he did that last time on a breakaway and he scored bothe times this one a low shot that banged the post and went in his 18th assists Erskine. Then in the third early Kozlov would be the recipient of a nice play by Nylander who skated in and dropped one back waiting for his player to cross into the zone which Kozlov did and fired a nice wtister that flew by Vokoun who Laughlin claimes was sagging but hey you would be too if your team was showing no signs of an offense. Kozie's 12th from Nyklabnder and Erskine. Then would come an empty netter when Ovie got the puck on the boards dropped to Smein at center who faked or dipsy dooed nicley and found an open Mike Green who skated in wide open and wristed the dagger home his 25th assists Ovechkin his 400th career point only Teemun Selane got there faster and Semin. Greta overall performance Jose had 19 saves and the Panthers had no shots in the third as the Caps blocked everything hasn't happened in six years to Florida nad the last team that held them shotless your Washingyton Capitals. Laich top star Kozlov 2nd Jose 3rd and a huge descrepancy in PPs Florida getting four the Caps only one. Let's Go CAPS!!!!!! Next up tampa on thursday. and Ovie looking for number 50.

Caps need OT but stretch win streak to 3

The Caps had a bad run but they made up for it by winning three in a row and regainig some breatheing room in the southeast again. Carolina got a point in a game the Caps hsould have won in regulation but a late 2nd period goal made it a game agin after the Caps just killed a penalty theyw ere gonna get another when a Cain fired one five hole to make it 4-3 and the game woul later be tied on a Corvo slapper. Let's get to the goals Cole scored first when he beat Jose 7 hole far side on a shot. But Mike Gren would answer back for the Caps on a noice passing play when Bacjstrom drew a double team flipped to Smein who no looked one to Green he wristed one off the goalie's side and in seven hole near side his 24th from Smein and Baklcstrom. Then Ovechkin would get his 49th on a slap pass from Green who would have shot but had a d man right in his face angled it to the side of the net where it dfelcted and ribbled to Ovechkin who flipped it top shelf near side assissts Green and Smein. Smein would make it 3-1 whewn he got a rebound 360ed adn wristde one boottom shelf far side for hois 29th assisste dby Laich adn Ovechkin. Then a play that could have sealed thed eal for the Caps went horribl;y awry when they failed to execute a 5 on 1 break and none got back look three on 1 is enough you don't need your whole team Ovechkin delayed too long on his pass to green and he did not have enough room to operate they could have made 2 3 4 passes in that sequensce and done something pretty but then the Canes came odd man rushing bakc and after jose made the initaial save Stall scored on the reobund which Semin could not clear or tehre might have been another odd man rush. Bakcstrom would make it 4-2 when a nifty passisng play Nylander found him open cutting to the net and he one timed it nicley top shelf near side his 19th from Nylander and Smnein but late whitney would get that five holer and in the third the Canes would tie on a d to d pass that Wallin slapped home might have been defelcted and we go tot OT wher Potoi gets whisted for a hook or slash but the Caps kill it off and in the shootout Jose makes a great poke svcheck save and anotehr one on a illa dvised wrister from not in close and S,mein dekes and fires top shelf ans Ovie pick out the five hole much like he idd during the all satr festivites and that makes it 2-0 in th SO and no need for th Canes third shooter to even come out game over your Caps get thje So out win Jose 28 saves Semin top star with 1 goal and 3 assists. Backstromthird star with a 1goal and a assist. The Caps have a 13 point edge in the Southeast and they should win that adn make up some space on Boston adn Jersey who they trail by 7 and 1 points. Terps get Biggest Win of The Year

This was the best the Terps have played all year especially the second half. The jumped out to a huge lead early in the second adn never gave in and allowed any sort of scary run by Wake. Mosley and Gerivis connected on back to back threes and gave the Terps a 15 point edge and the closest Wake would get was 8 but a three from Neal and then Vazquez would stop that run and elimante the Demon Decaons from thhe ACC bracket. There was alot of foul trouble when Greivis picked up his fourth with just under 7 minutes but he would be back a couple minutes later and stay til the finish and finished with 22 8 boards 9 assists almost his 2nd triple double of the year. Maryland was ice cold from long range first half but connected on all but 2 attempts in the second as Heayes would hit 1 Neal 1 Mosley 1 and Grevis 2 or three. Dino Gregory provided huge help off the Terps bench going 3-3 shooting and would miss an easy atte,pt late that could have sealed the deal earlier but let's be honest the deal was pretty much already sealed. Hayes would hit key free throws as he did last night and the Terps get the biggest win of their season as the advance to round three the seminfianl vs either Duke or Boston College. Coach Williams were you happy after this huge win "Oh you better believe it this was a huge win and i loved how we dominated p[lay in the second half or team just played great and we showed we belong in the MNadness". This time the Terps won the rebound battle this time and yesterday i mentioned that i dont think they have had a board advantage all year but im not sure about that as Maryland players seemed to get bigger and more boards meant everything to them as they won the battle 43-34 a nice advantage Milbourne getting 11 of them Neal 6 Mosley 6 and Bowie 3 hay Hayes even garbbed 1 and he might be the smallest gut on the court in all the games he plays and the announce mentioned that Dave Neale looks like he belongs in a bowling league and might be the third or fourth guy picked up in a church pick up game but all jokes aside he has played great his senior year for the Terps and Im sure they will miss the guy but he should have some Madness to partake in and that's always fun to be involved in especally if the Terps can make a run in it and go deep and who knows if they play there game they can. One note Wake shot 29.7 % from the field and a icy 3-25 from deep that's 12%. That's cold shooting and i just got a little chilly myslef mentioning it. Greivis is it good to be going to the Madness "Oh man it's great an unbelivable feeling but we have another ACC tournament game and we wanna win that and then win the final and take the whole tournament and say hey we always played everyone tough and we desreved to win those earlier games vs Duke adn Wake and Virgiania tonight we payed Wkae back and we want to do the same to the Blue Devils if they can handel BC after are game but whopever in there tommorow in that gym we gonna play hard play our best and see if we can go another round. I wanna play ball and the whole team does too and we pklaying good really good the first 2 rounds". Thanks Grevis. I wanna call him Beavis cuz they rhyme and that was a very funny show. Th Terps should be dancing and Caoch Williams and his team are all really thrilled with the big win and want some more greta plat tommorow. Hayes had 11 Gergory 6 Tucker a unuaslyy quiet 1 Bowie 5 Milbourne 8 but had many boards and a late scranmel tie up withe the arrow in the Terps favor Mosley was outstanding with 12 on 4-6 and Neale 10 One other note the terps had twicew ass many TOs 16-8 but still won and pretty easily 75-64 over the #9 team in the coubntry. A win tommorow would be sweet it's at 4:00 so the Terps will be right back on the court in Atlanta the sight of their national championship back in 2002.

cAps win vs Philly with Ovie shinig Bright

ALex Ovechkin the games top star and for good reason. He made a great play on a shorthanded breakway to come from behind ala darrell Green and caught up slid and poke checked thepuck away. Laughlin said it was the defsnive play of the game alltough some other Caps goit there sticks in front of and to pucks on juicy rebounds that could have been also claissified as goal savers. Eraly Fehr whiffed but got a seocnd hack and knocked it off the crossbar the Caps best chance in the firts period. The Caps would get 2 PPs to Philly's 4 as usual the refs giving the other team mnore PPs 99% of the time. Ovechkin on his D work "i had to skate as hard as i could to ctach up then i dtill a liitle behind so i dove and poked the puck away". Great play adn way to try to p[rove you desreve back to back MVPs. Then on the Caps first PP Baklcstrom swung to Ovie who wristed one right to Laich who moved into greta position in front and tipped the shot in it might have been going in anyway Lauihc's 17th from Ovehckin and bakcstrom. then Philly got a great 2 on 1 chance and made it count as a slap pass came on a fkae hsot thta Knumble would have a wide open net to score on and he didin't miss it. Theo had a great save in this one dicving across his crease and like a great shortstop snatched the puck with his glove saving a goal. he was second star making 35 saves. Then late in thes second Ovie would hit someone behind the net Smein would come in adn steal the pass touched it to Ovie who had skated to the front of the net and he one timed it top shelf far side for his 10th gamewinner of the year and NHL best 48th of the season just to away from his thrid srtraight 50 goal season assist Semin just a greta play soemthing the capitals having been doing throughout the year. Ovie had a chance for another goal tewice late making a great play on a funny carem that was hsot at net Ovie kicked the puck to his stick while diving and wristed it off the post which i think he also slammed intro with his head. The Caps did not shoot at the empty net opting to dump the puck back to center instead of risking the icing call but those empty netters make things a lot easier and i Think they need to take those shots cuz they are good at them ive seen some long empty netters thijs year for the caps who are riding a two game win streak. Next up Carolina and they need to finish this late season up well only trailing top team Boston by 7 and 2nd place New Jersye by 1 who both won tonight unfortunatley or things could look real good for the caps but in reality things still look rela good for the Caps after that jaw dropping 4 game losing streak had people going hey what's up with the Caps? they havent lost four staright all year and never under Vruce Voudreu. Well the fixed it up but havent yet secured there playoff birth and division crown so they still need to play hard and win games Let's GO CAPS!!!!!!!

Terps advance in ACC Bracket

This was a must win fro the Terps another loss would send them to the NIT if that and who wants to be in that tournament cetrainly not Gary Williams and his squad adn they beat the Wolfpack again this time 74-69. I only got to see bits and pieces cuz i was busy watching the Caps but i got to see about ten minutes during which the Terps outscoired there opponent by 7.Grevis hit a big three late and Hayes went 5-6 from deep and David Neale the portly forward who is forced into the center role on this undersized squad hit a couple of threes too making both his attempts. Hayes led in points with 21 next was Grevis rhymes with beavis only if Neale's name was NUtthead now that would be something. Mosley had a huge layuop late and tha kfuly Dino gregory at least made the first free throw of a 1 and 1 but missed the second. The Terps combined to shoot 9-16 from beyond the arc a dazzling 56.3 % but did get outrebounded 32-24 which i think might have always been this cazse this year as teams witha ctual centers get boiard after board. They had 13 tos to Ncstate 12. If they hope to win against Wake which they need to cement hopes of NCAA March madenss invite ithink a win tehre will do it for there tourney hopes right now they are iffy and bubbley. Theya re 19-12 but 20 wins should be enough for a spot. They play tommorow night at 7 vs Wake and i will be watching that game because it is better than WIz vs well anybody but they play Dwight Mighty Howard and the Magic so the Terps situation is more important. It should be hard fought and hopefully the Terps can keep fariq AMinou off the glass and win the biggest game of the year. If they win that one they may win the ACC tournament.

Caps end SKid Beat P{reds

Well it's over thankfully the Caps got a game winner in OT from Russian lefty center Sergie Federov and win. After three losses and no points teh Caps went to SO with the Pens but lost and this one went to OT to but ended theere when Sergei was passed to in front of the net deked went backhand and scored ending the game and the Caps losing streak. The top star however was Ellis the goalie for the Preds making 42 saves but his best was when Bakcstrom got a juicy rebound and backhanded and either he or a d sticked it out saving them a point otherwise the Caps win earlier. ANother great play was a 2 on 1 when Morrison sticked away a pass but Theo seemed to moving into good position to make the save too but another pass back would have been a better save with more side tos ide movement. Felichman thought he had one in the third but the refs and replay people in Toronto saw a disticnt kicking motion and the goal was wiped out. the Preds scored in the first minute with upheld pressure and a WRISTER from Sutter or a slapper that went bottom shelf far side but that's all the Preds would muster. Late in the seocnd Backstrom was the reciver on a great passing play by the top line and soome say the ebst line in hockey when he crossed the blue line dropped to Kozlov who dished it cross ice to Ovechkin who saw Nikky cutting to the net dished Nik deked went backhand fore hand and wristed it right through the heart of the net his shot started on the goal line and he was behind the last line of defense and the goalie. his 18th from Kozlov and Ovechkin and Nik was seocnd star. Then in OT federov would be the recipient of another fine passing play when Kozlov fopund him in front he deked and went forehnad bakchand the opposite of Nikky and backhanded one through the heart of the net very similar goals bothe off greta passes his 8th from Kozlov and Smein. Steckel had a breakaway as did laich and Semin but none could score as Smein went wide Laich's and Steckel were kciked oout because the could noit lift enoough and hit the gaolies leg had they been a little farther away they might have went in Smein just deked to hard and lost the puck and just caught the tip and sent it wide as he deked strong and did not skate fast enough had he sjated hard as well he could have recovered and scored another great one. Fedeorv was your third tsar ans Jose made 27 saves and there were only a couple of PPs and two fights with Bardley drawing and Bardshear landing on his butt after landing the majority of the shots Donald was on the ebcnh but i don't beleive he skated after his bout but might have. Caps next up in Philly to take on the Flyers who they want to beta to start a wqin streak. Let's GO CAPS AND KEEP GOING TO THE PLAYOFFS AND BEYOND.

Caps get Point Lose in Shootout

Things did not look pormising for the Caps heading into the thrid down 3-1 but Ovie and Laich made there presecnse felt and sent things to OT. The Caps needed that point they would have loved 2 but there shootout produced no goals in three tries from players who usually excel when things get to that point. Crosby scored the first goal on a 2 on 1 he was wide open and so was the net as Theo could not get in position in time and he scored. Then Semin would tie things for the Caps when Bakctrom was at the end boards stole a pass and backhanded to SMein cutting to the net who wen t bakchand himnslef to pass a d man and free himslef some space and backhanded one up high near side his 28th assists Bakcstrom Gonchar wouls score on a 4 on 3 when he fired a slapper top shelf corner and then Gurin would make a nice move on Morison free up some space and score. Then Ovie wpuld score ealry in the third when he fired a wrister that bounced off Gonchar and went in his 47th from Green and laich. Then Laich would get a long feed and skate in lose control of the puck briefly reocver go bakchand for hand and fire one off the posyt and in from Steckel and green his 16th. No goals in Ot and only Crosby's goal in the SO would decide things as Jose looked a but tired and seemingly put bnhis head down and got beta similar to Ovie pushing Crosby's head down in previous game and saying i aint playin with you punk im gonna show you who the beter player is and its me Oveghckin. Caps get the point and still lead the Southeast by a good margin Laich wa the third star the only Cap honored and theo made 19 saves and Poti got agreat feed from Ovie at the end of the second but fired on off the post and then the crossbar and just missed getting that goal. Next is At Nashville tommorow and the Caps will be playing hard goimng for the W in that one.

Caps lose thriller 2-1 to Leafs

The scoring in this one goit started late 0-0 to the middle of the htird where stempniak banked it off of Jose's leg and through five hole keep your legs closed baby and that one wont go in. Then a second came on a juicy rebound where it appeared to me that Jose checked a guy in front trying to clear up a sight line then Kubina busted it in far side bottom shelf. WIth abou 40 seconds left Backstrom won a darw and SMein skated from circle to center and fired a wrister over the glove and in and gave the Caps one final shot but they didn't score as Smein banked his 27th solo assist bakctrom and Smein has a 5 game goal streak. The Caps had great chances as did the leafs but the goalies were greta until Hose had that bad lapse maybe laziness ,maybe he just didn't exp[ect the guy to take that bad angle shot but in any case the Caps would have loved a win and didn't get it Jose made 27 saves and helped his GAA but lost and the Caps will be starved for a win when they play a 3:00 game vs Pittsvurgh I believe that's at home and they need points plural or a point but they and I would prefer two. LET"S GO CAPS@!!! GET THAT WIN AND FINISH STRONG AND GO TO THE PLAYOFFS WITH SOME MOMENTUM!!!!!!!

Terps Hoyas Caps Wizrads They AL:l fall down

I don't know what to say the Caps got waxed again this time by the Caines as they got to shorties in one game that PP just kept giving away qaily chances as the Caines sunk them Smein got his 26th Fedeorv his 7th or 8th but Neuvirth rocked while Theo was ill with the flu. The really need a win vs Torontop tommorow im predicting a hatrick or at leatsw a couple from Ovechkin and SMein Nikky and Kozlov getting started but you never know who will net one fro the Caps. Terps fell to Wake dewspite a great game from senior David Nealle i've been saying this all year they don't have a reall big man and D+fariq AMinu killed them on the offewnsive glass had they got those rebounds they would have crusied to victory Gerotowmn another oT thriller this time losing tot he Red STorm of ST Johns and the Wizards lose gain they are crusing yeah for the firts pick in the draft only Sacremento has fewrer wins at 13 to the WIzrads 14 LA CLIPS have 15 Memphis 15 and Oklahoma CIty who just barley beat them now hjas 16. The WIz might lose all the rest of their games so Thabbett Griffin ot Hanvborough get ready to come to DC. Caps Lose Big Terps Win Big

The Caps got trounced the Terps rolled. ALex Sewmin scored the first goal Ovie the last but in between were six Florida goals of all sorts shots bouncing up of a ds skate odd man rushes rebounds nice wristers they idd alot and the Caps could not come up with enough offense. Smein scored his 25th asisst Laic and Ovie his 46th assists Backstrom Jurcina but Theo opnly played one period giving up 4 goals that he really had no chance against and Neuvirth came in and allowed 2 over the next two but just not a good game for the Caps. The Terps however beat NC State and drew to 7-7 in ACC play. They won 71-60 on the road. Vazquez was on fire shopoting 13-23 FGs and ghad 33 points 3 boards 5 assists and a stael and a TO Milbourned was in foul trouble and only managed 5 points Mosley 2 Bowie 2 Neal 11 and 8 Hayes 9 Ticker 7 Gregory 2 and his was a big layup that gave the Terps a 6 point lead late.MD shot 10-21 from beyond the arc and 48.2 shooting %. The WOlfpack shot 50% but only 26% from 3 point land But Terps had half the Tos NC State did with only 8 to NC STates 16 and that was a boosts. AS the Terps kept getting there hand s in the passisng lanes and dfelecting passes and shoits. Hayes hit 2 critcal freethriws as well and Vazquez took a last play 3 that went right threw the hoop although he drew some critcism form the play by play guy who felt he should have just run out the clock but hey it went in and the Terps won a game they really needed as they face Wake Forset next and thenand then Virginai before the ACC tourney openes up. If they won one or both I think they will be dancing come March becaue 500 or better in the ACC is usually good enough and they may win both and be 9-7 when all is said and done.
