The Caps came into this one looking to tie their all-time best winning streak and they did it 10 IN A ROW WOW They scored the 1st 2 goals Tampa would tie it in the 3rd but Ovie wrsited a low corner tally with 7 minutes left and it was the game winner 2-3 your final to the goals The first was a juicy reboiund that Nik got to amnd slipped 5 hole his 23rd from Ovie and Fleichman a PPG then a pretty placing play between Tomas and Semin back adn forth the golaie falls trying to keep up both had space to socre but Tomas decided to pass Smein shot blocked by a d but it trickles in front and Laich got to it and fired it home his 16th from Smein adn Falsh -0-2 Then Tampa started some O in the 3rd a defelction beat Jose clean and then a one tiem slapper on the PP tied things up at 2-2 but Ovie would get a pass skate alittle and fire a wrsiter low corner well placed and was sorl;ey needed as the Caps had seen there lead vanish Ovie's 35th from Nik and Poti. Hoyas Deck Duke

The Hoyas #7 matched up with Duke #8 and came away with a lopsided victory leading by 10 late but no need to really exert themseklves they turned the ball over frequently the final minutes and Duke made it look a little clsoer 77-89. The Hoyas had a chance to set their best FG% ecver but a long Freeman jumper didnt fall. Hoyas are now 16-4 and 10-0 in Verizon and this is a big victory over a top team if only the Hoyas could have keptr up their quick start in Cuse and wqon they would be a top 3-4 team but that is still a good possibility for these Hoyas. Caps Claw Panthers

The Caps did what they have been doing most of the season and now 9 times in a row and thats winning with a 1-4 defeat of Florida in Verizon as they played a swell 3rd period and got goaltending help from Neuvirth who got another start and a strong perfromance from allowing just 1 and the Caps get 4 goals ill detail them now. The first was Knuble drivung to the net getting stopped but there was a tasty rebound for Backstrom and he fires it into the back of the net his 22nd from Knuble and Green a PPG. FLorida would tie on a pass acorss the net that was shot in while Neuvirth tried to get position it got past 1-1. It would be that way until a Backstrom slapper gets bobbled by the goalie and Ovie pounces on the rebound fires it off the skate of Knuble and in Knuble's 17th from Ovie and Nik. Then SHlutz slaps a bomb that slies past everuyone and hits top shelf net and thats a mean slapper he unloaded and well placed too his 2nd from Smein and FL:eichman. Then Knuble strikes again wristing a quick shot 5 hole and into the back of the net and he got it off quick giving the goalie little time to see adjust and save and its his 18th from Backstrom. faceoffs 35-26 FLO Hits 19-24 Caps and Green got decked in thois one but i believ he returned to play so i think hes fine i think he just got the wind knocked out of him SHots 36-40 Caps Neuvirth 35 saves and some nice ones especially when he flashed the glove out on a sweet svae. Caps Cook Ducks

The Terps beat Miami yeasterday and they have been playing really well recently so could there be 2 big shot college teams in the area Hoyas actually had a dissapointing loss to Cuse after scoring the 1st 14 points of the game they were not the same team the second half. The Caps however took a lead in the first minute ANaheim would tie but the 3rd period all Caps as they score 3 quick ones and add a 4th in the session later. To the goals: The fuirst was a shot from the point that Knuble goit his stick on and palced acorss to the crease where Ovie was looking at a open net he comntrolled and hit the short put (golf) a gimme goal his 34th from Knuble and Green ANaheim would tie on a juicy rebound then the 3rd was all Caps as Shaone Marrosion slapped a well placed shot that hit the back of the net his 1st unassisted Knuble would then be fed as Ovie rolled down and dished he shot the quick one that was stopped but the rebound lay there and he finished it hitting the back of the ent his 16th from Ovie and Shaone and Knuble has been scoring often recently showing good finish in tight to the net and there is no questions he's benefitting playing on in my estimation the best line in hockey. Then Smemin would be sent in alone on a long feed and he woeuld deke backhand and roof one past the golaie his 24th from Laich adn Shultz Then Smein would score on a slick one timer he slapped top corner and in a PPg his 25th from Nik and Ovie faceoffs 24-41 Caps Hits 21-16 Ducks Shots 31-49 Caps let me note That Matt Bradley was involved in a bout and he deflty threw and connected whiel dodging the oncoming starights he clocked ghis opp0onent 3 times then pulled him to the ground nice fight Bradley Neuvirth 30 saves played real well allowing just the one goal and Smein is your 1st star 2 G Ovie 3rd a G 2 A Shaone 3rd 1 G 1 A and Neuvirth gets m7y honorable mention. Caps Beach Islanders

The Caps set a quick pace to this one opening the 1st period getting 2 scores early and then 2 more leading 4-1 after 1. They would add 3 more and NYI only 1 leading to a 7-2 beating although New Tork had the PP frequently and the Caps not so much. Caps have now one 7 stright and host ANaheim tommorow night doing the back to back thing and they wanna stay hot for that is the only way they will reach the top of the NHL standings. To the goals. Erskins deked a defender moved in closer and slapped one that B Morrison got his stick on and he deflected it into the back of the net his 11th from erskine. Then Semin would steal the puck skate around defenders do a 180 to his forehand and fling a wrsiter top far corner swish his 22nd unassisted. NYI would answer on a meanly aimed shot top near corner that gave Jose little time and not much of a chance as it went into the net. No worries Knuble would be fed in front of the net whack at the puck 3 times and eventually it would squirt past the line and count for a goal his 15th from Fleichman and Backstrom a PPG. Then Semin with little time left in the 1st would get in dish across but a d would get in the way and the puck came right back to Smein and he was quick to stash it with his backhand a pretty goal his 23rd again unassisted. Erskine would join the rusgh and be fed in tight where he promptly put the puck 5 hole and into the back of the net his 1st from fehr and Chimera 5-1. a pretty passing play would have an Isle out in front of the ent alone and he wopuld stash it low corner for a goal 5-2 but Chimera would score again for the Caps with a quick wrister that the goalie could not stop and Chimera hits nbothing but net his 11th (3rd with the Caps) from B Morrsion and Fehr and Chimera does add soem things like speed and the abilty to score goals Clark no insult to him he was a good player but i like the deal so far. Then laich would skate in put the puck between 2 d and get it past them on a 1 on 1 withe goal he flipes it top corner and into the net his 15th from FLeichman and it was a sweet goal and that was all the many goals the Caps scored and the 2 the Isles managed so big win for the Caps as they are fire hot right now beating evryone they have played the last 7 and they now they need and want to keep winning and keep adding to this string of Ws. The Terps played well vs NC State and got the W scoring in bunches and palying strong D winning in a romp 64-88. Mr. Does everything from the PG spot Grevis had another solid perfromance but this Terps team is loaded with talent as Jordan the frehman played well as did Landon and bench man Cliff Tucker made big plays so lets tell u exactly what each did. Caps Ice Penguins

The Caps played a great game tonight avenging there playoff loss in a way taking down Pens 3-6. Ovie played hard and you could tell payback was on the Caps aganeda tonight as they played solidy as a team and worked hard the whole game no matter what task was being asked of them especially solid on the PP PK going 2-2 while stopping Pittsburgh all 4 times. lets get to the goals. first one was Pens when Jose mishandled a dump it went to the crease and eventually tipped in but Knuble would answer when a juicy rbeound he sluipped through the pads of the goalie and into to the net his his 14th from Ovechkin and Shaone Morrison Fehr would make it 2-1 when he snapped a shot in fornt of the net it redirected off a stick and caromed inot the back of the net his 13th from Chimera and Shaone a juicy rebound was tipped top a pen adn he had allot of net in sight and scored then a feed from the net to top middle was wristed top shelf for Pittsburgh 2-3 but Ovechkin would fire a mean wrister low and past the gaolei and inot the back of the net his 31st from Brendan Morrison adn Knuble a PPG then Fleichamn would give the Caps the lead for good when Smein saucerd one to him past the d and he skating in all alone to beat the goalie who was Brent Johmnson former Caps backup Tomas hits the bakc of the net his 17th from Semin and Carloson Then backstrom gets the puck behind the net on the PP has top near corner oipen and time and he hits the spot his 21st from Fleichman 5-3 the Ovie ends the game with a puck a move to the blue line his a long shot struck well and hit the cneter of the back of the net his 32nd from Steckel and the Caps have not been scoring on many empty nets so it was good to see this one go for a goal. Caps Dent Detroit

The Caps had to rely heavily on Jose tonight and he mad big save after huge save etc. and played great id be surprised if he's not top star tonight becaUSE the Wings had so many chances and he stopped all but 2 of them. First goal was Detroit's on a rebpund and Jose down and out the backhanded one from sharp angle and Jose put his glove up but the puck snuck through but the Caps would tie it on a sweet passing play where Bradley was fed going to the net and he breaked and flipped one up and in a sweet finish his 8th from Boyd and green Then with about 8 soem mintes left Detroit tied to dampen the evning by slpping a quick one 5 hole but the Caps would answer on the PP when Backstrom dkeed past a d and slung one lightning fast through the five hole his 20th from Ovie and Jose a PPG. Then less than a minute l;ater Smein b;lasted a shot tha got wekaened before it reached net and STeckel swiped it in cathcing the puck in mid air and senidng it into the back of the ent his 4th from Smein and ALzner 2-3 Caps a bad penalty would not cost them as they killed of the PP which they were great on all night and then with 2 sewconds left Matt tried for the empty net but missed just wide not sure if it would have went in before the clock tan out but it was the last play of the game so it didnt matter much. faceoffs 25-25 hits 17-30 Caps shots 46-23 Wings Jose 44 svaes PPs Caps 1-4 Wings 0-5 Jose is top star Nik 2nd the man that scored Detroit's 2md 3rd but the Caps win it with great goalie play and a spurt that had Detroit hurt. Caps Slap Up Toronto

The Caps played real well in this one getting 5 points from Ovie a strong start from Jose and 6 goals only allowing one to the Lefas 1-6 the final. The fisrt goal was Ovie on the right skating in and wristing one 7 hole near side a sniper shot accurate and effective his 29th from Nik then Fehr redirects a slapper by Ovie around the toe of the goalie and into the back of the net his 12th from Ovie and Chimera Knuble would be fed in front after the goalie went to challenge Ovie he put the puck behind and wround him Knuble with the easy stuff in front his 11th from Ovie and Nik Then Knuble would be on another stuff very similar to his first goal this one he stuffs in again his 12th from Ovie and SMein. a slapper beats Jose but its 1-4 and the Caps have more O Fleihman redirects a slapper by Ovie tip its into the top corenr his 16th from Ovechkin adn green and Poti joins the rush as Smein backs out he feeds Tom top flips it under the bar and into the net his 2nd from Smein adn green 1-6 the Caps win it in the Verizon Center. faceoffs 31-24 Leafs Hits 21-22 Caps shots 29-24 Leafs Jose 28 svaes and 3rd star 2nd was Knuble 2 G and 1st Ovie 1 G 4 A ties hois carerr high in points in a game. Hoyas Whip Seton

Caps Best Panther in SO

The Caps fell behind just like they did last game 1-4 but the stomred back and tied almost won it on Knuble defelct that hit the post. Then with 49 ticks left in OT a dumb penlaty by Laich but they killed it and in the SO with there backs to the walls 2 times they socred twice and got a Jose stop on a shot then Fleichman ended it with s deke roofer (top Shelf) that went in Caps get the W in an impressive comeback. To the goals the first two were Panther goals one on a breakaway the other i foprget but i didnt forget Chimera who kept the puck went around the golaie while in posession and fired a backhander into the back of the net his 10th no assisits and hes been a good pickup for former C Chris Clark. Florida two more goals and an early exit from Neuvirth but Jose shutout Florida making the saves he was called on to make. Pothier was fed in close to the net and he fired a wrister past the goalie his 4th from B mOrrison adn Chimera Ovie socred eealry in the 3rd when Florida fumbled the net in front of the net OPvie was right there for the loose biscuit and he peppered one past the golaie and inot the back of the net his 28 no assists. Caps and Terps get the L

The Caps made a great comeback effort but 2 sniper shots and then a boatload of penalties left them with no oppurtunity to strike back and they fall to Tampa 7-4 The Caps fell behind two nothing unyil Semin fired a one timer far low corner and into the back of the net his 19th from Fleichman and Shultz 2 more from Tampa and a bad 4-1 defcit buit the Caps tied it a Green drive to the net and backhand off the post and backside of the goalie was good for Mike's 11th from Smeina and Ovie a PPG then Fehr would fire a well aimed wrister top near corner hot shot his 11th from B Morrison adn Chimera. Then Green would fire a wrister that deflected off a body in front and hit net his 12th from Backstroma nd Ovie another PPG but then Tampa would start firing top corner rockets and Jose who came in for Neuvirth couldnt stop em 7-4 the final. Faceoffs 36-33 Caps Hits 12-20 Tampa PPs caps 2-4 Tampa 4-7 shots 36-36 Jose 18 svaes and Neuvirth 11 not a good game form the Caps to the dumb penalties and dfensive breakdowns they gave it a great comeback try but couldnt get any points. The Caps played there best game of the year scoring goals in bunches and getting real swell goaltending winning in a blowout 8-1. Knuble scored the first on a redirect in front of the net deflecting the puck into the net his 9th from Poti and SHultz. Semin then scored shorthanded on a mean wrister to the roof his 17th from Laich and green. Backstrom would score a PPG when a pass was tipped wound up on his stick in front of the net just the goalie to beat and he scored on a flip in his 18th from Green. Lnuvle would score on a juicy rebound when he stopped the puck bounced off his skate and into the bakc of the net his 10th from Ovechkin and Schlutz. ATlanta would score on a sneaky wrister that trickled through Neuvirth he tried to swat it away from net but was just a tad late. Semin would score on a greta pass from Fleichamn he would one time slpa it inot the net his 18th from fleichman and Poti. Steckel would get a feed heaidng to the net and get his stick on it and tip it in five hole his 3rd from Bardley and Boyd. Poti would fire a one time slapper into the low corenre near side on the PP his 1st from Smein and Pothier. Then Chimera would be in ront of the net just him and the goalie and he would fire it top shelf roof job into the net his 9th (1st as a Cap) from B. The Wiz got a big win over last year's Eastern Conference Cahmps Orlando. The wiz had a strong 4th scoring 33 holding the magic to 20 and that was the duiffernece as they win it 97-104. Caps Rack Up the goals Beat down Ottawa

The Caps started strong 2-0 after the 1st but a defelction off a skate gave Ottawa a goal but no worries the Caps would score ealry and often in the 3rd 2 back Nik Backstrom the Ovie had a splendid breakaway 2-5 the final and the Caps have now won 2 in a row. The first goal was a juicy rebound for Boyd Gordon who got knocked down but still shot the puck up over the golaie and into the net his 1st from Steckel and Bradley. Then Knuble would skate down the wing and fire one far side low corner and into the net his 8th from Bakcstrom and Green. Ottawa scores off the old puck off the skate trick but ealry in the 3rd Nik would fire one near side bad angle shot but it would go in his 16th from Ovie and Shultz. Then Nik again on a spledid rap around after he got into the o zone skated around and past d went behind and around the net on teh other side he flipped it into the back of the net his 17th from Poti. Then Ovie would steal the puck skate past a d move to his forehand to get the goalie going bac to bakchand and flip a roofer into the top cneter of the net his 27th from Bradley and Shaone Morrison with little tiem kleft an open man was in ront and flipped it nelow Jose s glove and in 2-5 the final. Hoyas Lose Close one

An ealry funk had the Hoyas trail ealry and they managed to take the lead but never by more than 3 and Marquette being that close always had a shot to win a late missed 3 gave the Hoyas a chance to grab the lead but instead it was an offensive rebound and that man was fouled when the Hoyas should have played D a careless foul and the man made both fts then Greg MNonroe made it a one point game again they had to foul and the Marqauette player missed the first of a one and one so the Hoyas have the chance at the lead but a Freeman runner was off Monroe got pushed trying to grab the board but no foul was called they amde both fts and Wright airballed a buzzer beater Hoyas lose 59-62 and i blame a lack of getting Monroe the ball in the post he only took 6 shots thats not nearly enough for their talemnted big man 9 pts 10 reb 3 ass 2 stl 2 blk Vaughn 6-9 12 pts 2 reb 1 ass 2 blk Freeman 6-13 20 pts 3 reb 6 ass Wright 3-8 9 pts 3 reb 7 ass a stl Calrk 2-6 7 pts 4 reb 2 ass a blk Hollis made 1 basket and benimon and wright botrh missed layups so alot of things cointributed to this loss and i already stated 3 of them. Caps win beat Montreal

The Caps lost to LA i didnt blog but Green tied it with his 10th tally of the year a nice wrsiter aimed well into the back of the net. A shorthanded break for LA would result with Neuvirth falling down and them scoring they won 2-1 but a different outcome tonight in DC when the Caps played well got great goaltending and won 4-2 heck if not for a couple deflections off Caps the Candiens would have been shutout and Neuvirth should be the backup when Smeyon returns not Jose Semyon was injured in a regahv start and is out another 2 weeks so Michale should get the majority of the starts he's the better goalie. Caps first goal was Tomas driving to the net and shooting around the foot of the goalie and into the net his 15th a PPG unassisted. Montreakl would tie on a deflection off Fleichamn;'sstick and the game was tied at 1-1 but not for long as Fehr would send a bakchander that bounced off a d's skate and into the net his 10th from Laich and Green. Smein would make it 3-1 when he fired a mean wrister that wnet low shelf and right past Price into the back of the net his 15th from Poti andd Fleichman. Montreal would make it a one goal game as a pass hit a skate and snuck into the net 3-2 but late in the 3rd Smein would add the all important insurance goal a wicked slapper off a nice opasiing play that went top shelf corner goal for Smein his 16th from Fleihcman and 2nd goal of the night 4-2 and that was the final.
